Well by now we all know that Labour has formed a minority government as I predicted a few months ago.
There is something that deeply concerns me about his though - so much so that I wish we as a nation had actually gone back to the polling booths for a true reflection of what each of us and our value sets really wanted as a true representation of our thoughts and beliefs.
I can hear the groans from those of you who feel that politics and psychic don’t necessarily fit – and who abhor the thought of going through the voting process again - however it is actually as an intuitive profiler that I groan at the decision that has determined this outcome.
Without this sinking into a public political debate, these Independents were voted in for what they as an individual party represented. Therefore people felt that they represented what was important to their values, morals and personal standards. So to see this small group of men hold such a power base and make a “king maker” decision based on their own value sets is scary to me.
Had a majority government been formed, irrespective of my personal political beliefs, I would have been comfortable as I believe that Australian politicians deserve to “pitch and win” as such. However, I have listened to some of the rhetoric of these few Independent “king makers” and I only hear their value sets screaming at me wrapped in the words they think will justify their decision - even when it has been against their constituents’ values.
I am so concerned because as an evolutionary country, I would hope that people in Australia understand that they vote for the party platform and not the individual nominated by the party. Because the platform is the party's value set and a damn good indicator of what the people who collect in these parties actually believe in.
It’s the same as when you make a decision, be it in your personal life or work life – if you know yourself and have a clear picture of your value set and what you’re working toward rather than away from, and then you will always make a strong and right decision for you if you base it on your value set.
On the weekend we held our first public Values Workshop and what an outstanding bunch of people we had for this highly motivated, honest and eye-opening day. One of our attendees, Lyn, wrote to us and said: “ Before Saturday if someone had asked me my values in life they would have been so scattered, so driven by other people’s influences and desires. But not anymore, who would have thought it was so difficult to come up with my OWN values, and yet I did.”
I’m not asking you to be a “king maker” for anyone else but yourself, but so many people relegate themselves to the rank of “lowly serf” when it comes to placing priorities on their own values, goals and ambitions. And we all know that other people always decide the fate of “lowly serfs”. Who is determining your fate?
As I recall, the last “king maker” in England was the Earl of Warwick who set up King Edward Plantagenet. Warwick was killed for his efforts.
And my predictions for this government? Mmm, Julia, keep an eye on Wayne Swan and Bob Brown and the two Independents, whom I predict will cause a re-election within the next two years. I’ve said it before and I still believe it – I also think Peter Costello will be our next PM despite him not having a seat in Parliament at the moment. What a ride we’re in for!
