My 4 year old started prep and I feel like I have another child in my home. She‘s overtired, cranky and pushes me away all the time! I’m so hurt at this change. Is it a phase or is she upset being at prep? Her teacher says she’s too emotionally immature for school. Do we pull her out or keep persevering?

Keep persevering.
I feel that the anger and mouthing to you is based on her fatigue and finding new structure to manipulate with at prep! I have to also say that my Guides are telling me that you had this problem before prep-just not so obviously publicly. By this I mean, she was also a bit defiant but at home you could manage it, but at school you are restricted a bit more.
Please Kym, stick your guns and your discipline at home. When she is mouthy or disrespectful to you in public let her know there will be a consequence when she gets home so that your behavior code becomes unilateral.
Also, I feel you need to pay more attention to your daughter’s teacher as she feels young-about 24 years and slightly overwhelmed at her first year in prep. Keep any eye on how she is managing your daughter as that contributes as well.
Over all I must say that your daughter is strong, confident and particularly good with languages.

Thank you Julianna. I subtly enquired as to my daughters’ teacher’s age and she just turned 24! This is also her first prep class but not her first teaching class.
She also mentioned it is a bit more demanding than other year classes due to the level of non-independence of the children compared to other older age group classes.
I have also started to make Cassy accountable for the behavior at school when we get home-her father is backing me up-and the behavior has substantially decreased now.
You were right as well, she has always been head strong and defiant yet easy to live with generally.
And for the record-I am Australian of Italian parentage and my husband is French. Cassy can speak fluent French and Italian!
