Every religion has the essence of Spirit within it. When we think of any religion we generally think of the dogma, tradition, history and rituals that form a crucial part of it, not necessarily the spiritualism associated with the religion. I am often asked about where spiritualism fits in with religion.
How for example, do Muslims, Catholics, Baptists and Christians find the self-permission or the loophole to seek guidance from a psychic? As interesting as this question is it does little to help us understand that all religions and spirituality are aligned.
When we remove the dogma, tradition, history and rituals from religion we are left with the very cornerstone of spiritualism - belief in what we cannot see but we know has a presence and charter in our lives; an arena of spirits and entities that are working specifically to help us progress, better our lives, understand others and be all that we can be. If anything, removing the dogmas, traditions, history and rituals actually allows the spiritualism within religions to strengthen a religion’s course and stance within history and modern day.
Ask yourself this - how do you know God, Jesus, Mary, Angels, Devils, the Prophets and Disciples, Yahweh, Buddha, Gods of Earth, Wind and Fire exist for you unless you innately KNOW this to be your truth? Many people, me included, are born into a religious base decreed through our birth by our parents and various cultures, and yet with time develop into other faiths because these other faiths suit and fit into our souls like the shadows we cast everyday walking into the sun.
Spirituality is about faith in the concept of an almighty power and order way beyond our understanding and scope of the immediate world.
Spirituality is about having faith that you are here for purposes as yet not necessarily known by you.
Spirituality is about being kind, tolerant and assertive about who you are, what you want and what you do around this.
Spirituality is about understanding that if you walk with God, you cannot be attached to evil spirits, evil influence or karmic junkets.
Spiritualism is about knowing that you can wilfully choose another way of living your life and your own truth other than by what society dictates and expects.
In fact, spirituality recognizes that there are two rules that truly exist; Man’s law and God’s law. One you can play with and one you are answerable to.
If you are feeling confused as to how both Spirituality and your Religion can sit comfortably together for you, ask yourself these questions:
- Why do I see spirituality and my religion as two separate bodies of thinking?
- What scares me about mixing the two?
- Who has told me that the two are separate and why is this important to me?
- What do I love about each of them?
- How can I make the two of them work together for me?
Spiritualism and religion work hand-in-hand and have no fear of each other. After all, those working within both spiritualism and religion are working for the same sole purpose: to ensure that humanity exists with integrity, love, strength and a divine understanding that we are more than we can see.
