You can image how many versions I have heard about reincarnation. In a recent course class I was asked about it and soon after my 11 year old son came home very upset about the fact that two kids in his class had knocked a spider out of a tree and then hit it to death. Dillon was distraught because to him the spider was a tiny soul to be looked after and the aggression of the kids frustrated him. Dillon told his brother Rhys about the spider and then Rhys asked me if it was true that the spider may have been someone we knew from a past life or if it could reincarnate to someone we will come to know. So here are my thoughts.
My Definition of Reincarnation
My answer is that I believe that we start wherever God (whichever God you believe in) decrees us to start. I do not believe that we start at as a cockroach, spider etc then evolve into a cat or dog then evolve into a horse then into a dolphin then into the superior human being position.
I believe that there are systems within systems. By this I mean that I believe that insects will reincarnate into more evolved insects, animals will evolve into more evolved animals and mammals will evolve into more evolved mammals. Whilst I have known, and dealt with, many people over the years that have less emotional, intellectual and spiritual development and capacity than a cockroach, I do not believe that we go backwards in our evolution.
I believe that every single creature - humans included - has a place and space in the overall system that God has allowed us not only into, but to develop through, the evolution of mankind.
I also believe that when we pass over we come back as we choose to - as a Soul whose job it is to continue to grow and evolve.
Our Duty
So as far as reincarnation goes, I feel deeply that it is our duty and mandate to be the best we can be on every level in not only this, but all of our lifetimes. I do not believe that because we have a hard life, easy life or whatever sort of life in this lifetime that we are paying penance for what has happened in our past lives. To me, the concept that our lives on earth are harder as a result of our past is an excuse for yet another non-acceptance of personal responsibility for our choices and action in our own lives.
Yes, I realize that there are some things that happen to us that are not our choices willingly – for example the tragic loss of a loved one or a child dying of cancer. I do however feel that it is up to you how you manage every situation and find the strength you draw on during your challenges. I believe that everything has an order and even when we cannot see this order playing out for us and when we question it - it is still there in our higher scheme.
This may not be the contemporary psychic view on reincarnation. However, as a Spiritual Philosopher it is what I know to be my truth.
